Terms of Use
In short: KernPDF is a free tool for turning articles into clean PDFs for your own reading and records. Respect the copyright and terms of the websites you save from, don't use it to get around paywalls or logins, and check important documents yourself, because it's provided as is.
1. Agreeing to these terms
KernPDF is made and run by Jon Coleman ("I", "me"). By ticking the box and using KernPDF, you agree to these Terms of Use and confirm you have read the Privacy Notice. If you don't agree, please don't use KernPDF.
2. What KernPDF is
KernPDF lets you take an article you can already see in your browser, choose which parts to keep, and save them as a PDF. It runs entirely in your browser and is offered free of charge. I may change, pause or stop offering KernPDF at any time.
3. Using KernPDF responsibly
You may use KernPDF for lawful purposes, such as personal reading, study, research, and keeping records of material you're entitled to access. You are responsible for how you use it, and for making sure your use respects copyright and the terms of the websites you save from.
Please don't use KernPDF to:
- get around paywalls, logins, subscriptions or other access controls;
- copy, republish, sell or share other people's content in ways their owners haven't permitted;
- remove or hide information that identifies the author or source of a work in order to pass it off as your own;
- create, store or share material that is unlawful, harmful or infringes anyone's rights;
- disrupt KernPDF, the website that hosts it, or any other website.
4. Your content
The articles, pictures, captions and PDFs you work with stay on your device. KernPDF doesn't claim any rights in them. You are responsible for the documents you create and for anything you do with them.
5. Supporting KernPDF
KernPDF is free. If you choose to send a support payment through PayPal, it's a voluntary gift to me personally to help cover the cost of running and improving KernPDF. It isn't a donation to a charity, it isn't tax-deductible, and it doesn't buy any product, feature, service or priority support. PayPal's own terms apply to the payment. If you sent money by mistake, contact me and I'll sort it out.
6. KernPDF's own content
The KernPDF software, name, logo and website are © 2026 Jon Coleman. All rights reserved. You may use KernPDF as offered here. Please don't copy, modify, sell or redistribute the software, or present it as your own, except where the law allows it.
KernPDF includes open-source components that are licensed separately under their own terms: pdf-lib (MIT licence), PDF.js (Apache License 2.0), Mozilla Readability (Apache License 2.0), and the Caladea, Carlito and Poppins fonts (SIL Open Font License 1.1). Their notices are shown in KernPDF's About panel.
7. No warranty
KernPDF is provided free and "as is". It may leave out parts of a page, place things differently from the original, or make mistakes. Check any document that matters before you rely on it or share it.
8. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of KernPDF, including loss of data, documents or time. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded.
9. Other websites
KernPDF works with content from websites I don't control. I'm not responsible for those websites, their content, or their terms. Links from this site to other websites are provided for convenience only.
10. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. When the terms change, KernPDF will ask you to read and agree to them again before you continue using it.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia, and you agree that the courts of Western Australia can hear any dispute about them.
12. Contact
Questions about these terms are welcome at support@kernpdf.com.
